Melissa entered this world singing at 10:56 on June 4, 1981, and the universe will never be the same!
As a little girl, she collected Doris Day records, loving the "sassy sweetness" of the blonde actresses' voice. Before long, she discovered the perfect pitch and phrasing of Francis Albert Sinatra, and the incredibly smooth voice of Dean Martin. Singing along with those favorites, her voice began to develop. As she pursued formal training, Melissa began to form a style that she would someday call jazz.
Somehow, the vocal talent of the dignified lady that would capture her musical heart forever, would be elusive until her later teen years. Then it happened! She encountered, for the first time, the richest female voice she had ever heard. Ella Fitzgerald, the "First Lady of Jazz" knocked her off of her feet with some of the most powerful renditions of jazz standards ever heard by human ears!! She knew then that Ella would always be her ideal.
Her Gospel inspiration comes from the astounding Cathedral Quartet. Their incredible harmony, sincerity, and enthusiasm are qualities that have motivated her to seek a niche in the Gospel genre as well. Regarded with special favor are the traditional hymns called "spirituals". Spirituals are songs we can all relate to, evidenced by: "Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen", the first selection on her 2006/2007 DEMO cd.
Jazz standards and Gospel are her music. They say what she wants to say. They "accentuate the positive". They make the world a better place, by adding the incredible beauty that flows from them. You want to smile. You want to know more about your Creator. You want to sing along.
Singing this kind of music is her mission in life. She was born to sing it, to share it. Of the five selections that are presented on the DEMO cd, "Lullaby of Birdland" is her most recent recording, showcasing her maturing voice.
A young woman of the new millennium, inspired by Day, Sinatra, Martin, Fitzgerald, Younce, and Payne; Melissa Dyvonne is an unusual find, and a fresh addition to your event or occasion.
